Support legislation and opposition Relating to notice of and consent to an abortion for a minor. Abortion for minors is a major public health concern in the United States. There are more than 300,000 births to teens each year, increasing the risk of both the mother and the babyââ¬â¢s health. Abortions on minors have raised political, clinical, social, and economic awareness. In order to make effective changes to abortion for the minor one must produce empirical evidence, to evaluate policy options for persons involved in public health policy and legislation. In January 2000, Texas enacted a law requiring physicians to notify the parent before an abortion is done with a minor, or notifies at least one parent of the intent to terminate theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The only way for minors to seek abortion without involving their parents is to petition for a judicial bypass, from the courts. Most States are now being applying the parental involvement of one or more parent to be notified or consent before a minor daughter legally has an abortion. Some states require one of two types of parental involvement, which involves notifying one or both Parent. So far about 38 states now required some type of parental involvement in a minor s decision to have an abortion. Out of these 38 states, 21 of the states require one or both parents to give consent to the procedure, 12 require one or both parents be notified and 5 require both consent and notification before an elective abortion can occur. Three of these require both parents to consent. The parental involvement laws from the Court have clarified the legal position on abortion regulation making it difficult for a female goes for an abortion. (Guttmacher, 2013). In Texas, the parental notification and consent laws had an effect on birth and abortion rates for minors with notification laws reducing birth and abortion rate with the 16 ââ¬â 17 year old females. It includes taking into account all the verbal and non-verbal elements which communicate some sort of meanings in one way or the other. The picture depicts a fearful pregnant girl who is afraid of revealing her pregnancy to her mom, her reaction and thinking of aborting the baby. Purpose of the picture is to communicate to teenagers especially girls who are poised to unsafe sex practices and before marriage sexual relationships. It is also to somehow make them aware of the consequences and the bitter reality that sometimes teenage girls can be exploited. However, lingering doubts about the efficacy and safety of popular and recommended vaccines, specifically the DTP and MMR vaccines, remain. It is not necessarily the attenuated virus portion of the vaccines, but the ingredients which assist in the performance of the vaccines, that brings about concern. Some studies report that, at various times and in certain populations, vaccines may pose greaterâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦One reason that is resurging in the media is the notion that vaccines can be linked to autism. In the middle is the result: cases of measles, mumps and rubella are occurring and populations of children are at risk to contract these preventable viruses. It is therefore important to examine whether vaccinations are indeed safe, if such vaccines pose adverse health risks, and exactly what the nature of reasons are as to why some children do not receive their immunizations. Much o f the controversy initially arose out of a study published originally in 1998. The Center of the Questions of Vaccine Safety In 1998 Wakefield et al. published the results of a study in the British Journal Lancet titled ââ¬Å"Ileal-lymphoid-nodular hyperplasia, non-specific colitis, and pervasive developmental disorder in childrenâ⬠(Wakefield, et al., 1998). What the researchers reported is the results of a study of 12 children who had been previously healthy, but were now presenting at a hospital with various complaints. These included a loss of acquired skills including language, and diarrhea and gastrointestinal pain. These children underwent extensive tests which all returned with various results. Over the years, each individual creates their identity through past experiences, family, race, and many other factors. Race, which continues to cause problems in todayââ¬â¢s world, places individuals into certain categories. Growing up in the Jim Crow South, many young blacks, have their identities essentially already created for them based solely on the backgrounds and race. During this time period, whites expect blacks to behave a certain way, have certain traits, and treat them with absolute respect. Whites during Richardââ¬â¢s time still feel they are much superior to the blacks they interact with, and have many expectations that would be considered racist today. However, in his work, Richard Wright shows how one can break from this predetermined mold. In many instances during the work, Richard breaks from this identity to which he is assigned in order to create his unique identity and grow into the person he wants to become. Richard refuses to sit back and to be absorbed into the Jim Crow lifestyle of southern blacks. In Richard Wrightââ¬â¢s Black Boy, Richardââ¬â¢s past experiences with both white and black individuals, family, and race issues shape his true identity and develop him into the man of his dreams living the life which he chooses instead of the one assigned to him. Richard Wright, a young black boy growing up in his family home in Mississippi, searches for his identity through many different experiences. A constant in his life which continues to shape his identity time and time again is his family. Throughout the work, Richard searches for a loving and caring family. Although his family may not fit the description at all times, they help him to form his independence, a big part of his true identity. As a young black male growing up in a house with his extended family, Richard did not have many freedoms. Throughout Black Boy, Richardââ¬â¢s family constantly shelters him from the outside world. The story begins in his grandmotherââ¬â¢s home in Mississippi where his family constantly reprimands him. For example, in the beginning of this work, Richard Wrightââ¬â¢s grandmother has fallen sick in the house. Therefore, Richard is expected to be quiet and not play with his brother. Richard, a young boy, just wants to have some fun, and proceeds to play with matches. He becomes more and more curious, and sets the curtains on fire, almost burning down the house. Because he was so sheltered, he became this curious little boy, causing trouble in his family home. Consequently, Richard is beaten for his actions, which becomes a common theme through the work. Richard explains: I was lashed so hard and long that I lost consciousness. I was beaten out of my senses and later I found myself in bed, screaming, determined to run away, tussling with my mother and father who were trying to keep me still (Wright 7) Time and time again, family members or outsiders attempt to beat Richard. He learns his first real lesson shaping his identity while trying to buy groceries for the house. After his father leaves, Richardââ¬â¢s mother tells Richard he is now in charge of buying groceries. Richard feels like the man of the house, and acts very confidently, until he needs to go buy the food. The first two times he attempts to buy food, a crowd of boys beats him and steals his money. However, his mother sends him out a third time equipped with a stick. Richard easily defeats the boys and claims that night he ââ¬Å"won the right to the streets of Memphisâ⬠(Wright 21). In this situation, it seems that Richardââ¬â¢s mom is not being fair by sending him out to get beat up time and time again. However, she is only doing this in order to help Richard survive in the future. By winning the right to the streets of Memphis, Richard is growing more independent. He no longer relies on his father to bring home food because he is not coming back, and he is able to stand up for himself when the time comes. Richard becomes more independent throughout different experiences in Black Boy. Richardââ¬â¢s grandmother, a devoutly religious person, has an underlying grievance with Richard because he is not religious. Richardââ¬â¢s grandmother begins to shelter him by not buying him books which he needs for school. Richard explains, ââ¬Å"I needed textbooks and had to wait for months to obtain them. Granny said that she would not buy worldly books for meâ⬠(Wright 143). In addition, Richard claims that his Granny always burned the books he had brought into the house, ââ¬Å"branding them as worldlyâ⬠(Wright 151). Richard needed money to buy his books, some new clothes, and lunch during the week at school. However, his grandmother continues to shelter him by not allowing him to work. When Richard asked to work on the weekends, Richard explains that ââ¬Å"she laid down the injunction that I could not work on Saturdays while I slept under her roofâ⬠(Wright 147). These two instances with his grandmother show Richardââ¬â¢s ambition. Richard wants to make something of himself, and does not want to sit back and live the usual life of a black individual. He wants to begin working in order to make money to buy his books so that he can study and live out his dream of becoming a writer. He loves it, and he ââ¬Å"hungered for a different life, for something newâ⬠(Wright 151). Richard wants to get out and experience the world, and break the mold of the assumed black identity. To begin this task, Richard begins writing his own stories. After Richard completes his first story, he brings it to his neighbor to read. Her reaction to his story was the common reaction: ââ¬Å"Whatââ¬â¢s that for? â⬠(Wright 141). Later, Richard shows his grandmother his second piece, The Voodoo of Hellââ¬â¢s Half-Acre. She has the same reaction as the neighbor, and begins to question him on what the story is about and why he is writing a story for the newspaper. According to her, he will not be able to get a job because people are going to think that he is weak minded (Wright 198). Richard exceeds expectations and completes tasks that black people arenââ¬â¢t supposed to do. Richard changes his identity from a subservient black boy into a sort of rebellious young man by beginning his writing career. Throughout the work, Richard introduces a countless number of jobs from working in homes of whites, to attempting to learn the trade of optometry. For one of his many jobs, Richard is working for a white family. While interviewing for this job, the mother of the family asks if he will steal from them, a common trait associated with black people. While working for this family, Richard is having a conversation with the mother. She asks him, ââ¬Å"What grade are you in school? â⬠(Wright 173). Richard responds, ââ¬Å"Seventh, maââ¬â¢amâ⬠(Wright 173). She then asks him, ââ¬Å"Then why are you going to school? â⬠(Wright 173). This conversation shows that whites think it is unnecessary for blacks to go to school past the sixth grade because they should be working. Whites think that they will never amount to anything, and therefore should not be wasting their time in school. However, Richard wants to break this predetermined mold of who he is supposed to be. He replies to his employer, ââ¬Å"Well, I want to be a writerâ⬠(Wright 173). While working for this white family, Richardââ¬â¢s predetermined identity and his plans to break from this mold are both shown. Eventually, Richard hopes to be able to write for a living, and continues to attend school to study to become the best he can be. Both his employer and his family tell him that he has no chance of becoming a writer, but he continues to prove everyone wrong by not worrying about his race. He dismisses the fact that there are no famous black writers, and continues to achieve his goals and continues to form his true identity. Richard continues to press on and works hard each and every day in order to break the mold of his assigned identity due to his race. Richard eventually becomes the valedictorian of his ninth grade class, and has a huge disagreement with his principal. The principal summons Richard to his office and says to him, ââ¬Å"Well, Richard Wright, here is your speechâ⬠(Wright 206). After Richard claims that he has already written his own speech, the principal tells him ââ¬Å"Listen, boy, youââ¬â¢re going to speak to both white and colored people that night. What can you alone think of saying to them? You have no experience. . . â⬠(Wright 206). Richard continues to fight this assumption made by his principal that he cannot deliver a speech which will be acceptable for white people to listen to. Even when his Uncle Tom claims, ââ¬Å"the principalââ¬â¢s speech is the better speechâ⬠(Wright 209) Richard agrees. However, Richard wants to give the speech he wrote because it says what he wants to say (Wright 209-10). Richard did not care if the principalââ¬â¢s speech was better than his; he wanted to deliver his speech the way he wanted to deliver it. Here, Richard continues to develop his true dentity as a fighter who will not stand for this assigned identity. He wants to make a difference in the world, and he is fed up with everyone just taking the abuse they receive. He begins to build up a dream in himself which the educational system in the Jim Crow South had been rigged and designed to stifle (Wright 199). He was only fifteen years old, and already began realizi ng how the Jim Crow South worked. However, he did not like the system, and constantly fought against it. Growing up in Marlboro, New Jersey, race was not much of an issue for me. Throughout my K-8 public education, over ninety-five percent of the students in my school were white, just like me. I had no problem fitting in, and was able to have many of the privileges spoken about in Peggy McIntoshââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"White Privilege. â⬠I got along with almost all of my classmates growing up, and was even friends with the few black kids in my school. Ben, a black classmate of mine became a close friend when we played on the basketball team together. As I moved on from Middle School to a private, catholic high school, there were even less minorities. In my senior graduating class I had three black classmates. These few individuals were sometimes segregated from the group, and might have felt uncomfortable during some circumstances. However, I did not realize at the time how sheltered I was from the world. I did not have many friends of different cultures and was not truly aware of the world outside of my high school and my hometown. I never truly viewed the other perspective; I took for granted my opportunity to go to school and get a good, public school education through middle school. I then again took for granted my ability to go to private high school to receive an even more personalized education in a smaller school. I did not think about the poor ethnic groups living in the slums of places such as Haiti, or even in places such as Newark, NJ. I had this sort of mindset going through school that if it didnââ¬â¢t involve me, it wasnââ¬â¢t my problem to fix. Students in these poor, urban areas such as Newark and Camden in NJ tend to have a different lifestyle than students from Marlboro. In these poor communities, school is almost looked at as it is in black boy. Most kids from these areas will begin working when they graduate high school, and do not go onto college. Again, I took for granted my opportunity to go to a small, unique, private college. Most kids in these areas I described donââ¬â¢t even dream of going college because they believe it is just not a possibility for them. In my short time at Babson, I have met people from countries that I have never heard of before. I have acquainted myself with many different people of many different races, and I am beginning to learn a few facts about many different cultures. In this short period of time, my cultural horizon has broadened greatly. I cannot wait to see how much I will learn about so many different cultures and ethnic groups in my four years at Babson. In conclusion, Richard Wright searches for his identity throughout his life in the Jim Crow South. Richard does not want to just be another drop in the bucket in this Jim Crow lifestyle, and does not want to fit the mold of a typical black male. He has dreams, aspirations, and goals which no other black youth has been able to accomplish. He continues to fight against the assumed black identity until he forms his own self-identity. Richardââ¬â¢s race definitely lead to assumptions being made by different individuals, but he was able to break free of these assumptions and create a life in which he was in control. Richard Wright broke free of the Jim Crow South and lived the life which he wanted to live while developing his own identity. Just as Wright did, every one of us struggles to define who we are, when in reality we are only who we are supposed to be. An Inspector Call Characters Eric Essay For my essay I chose Eric because of his difference in personality from the other protagonist. Eric is a young man who likes getting his own way and being the centre of attention. I said this because of this quote Look here Ive had enough of this, which shows that he willing to take control of a situation and impose his views on others. The quotes call the audience attention. At beginning of act one, all the characters are quite enjoying Sheila engagement with Gerald. In this act Eric begins to laugh uncontrollably and rises from his chair (Suddenly guffaws), Sheila question what he is laughing about he replies that he just felt the need to laugh, Sheila calls him squiffy. Erick provokes her sister and she calls him an ass , at which point Mrs. Birling tells the two of them to stop it. (in this act Eric is acting strangely for reasons we dont know yet but we will know with play progresses) When he is first introduced in the opening stage directions. Were told that Eric is not quite at ease. He is apparently half shy and half assertive. During her sister engagement he interrupts Sheila and Gerald when he suddenly guffaws and when Sheila ask him why hes laughing but he says he doesnt know why hes laughing . He finds things his family say funny , even when theres no joke this shows that he was drunk. Hes quite noisy when he tells Gerald that Sheilas got temper he was probably drunk, Hes in an excitable , silly mood according to his mum. Eric get mad/paranoid when Gerald and his dad make the joke about his dads knighthood. Gerald says unless Eric is been up to something, and Eric acts suspiciously and seriously he says I dont think its very funny. He says still uneasy, and also answer defiantly. During Sheila and Gerald Dinner seems to be Nervous , irresponsible, inappropriate, drunk and unstable. Sheila realized he drinks a bit, but no one in the family really realises how messed up Eric really is , firstly hes a drinker a heavy drinker , and he has been for a while , we can see Erics familiarity with quick heavy drinking in the way he pours his whisky in Act three. The rest of the family sees it too. His family doesnt care about him , his dad sees him as a boy still. We get the the feeling he wishes Eric was a bit like Gerald, his dad also seems to be regret paying for his schooling particularly when Eric makes comment that show sympathy for the workers instead of the bosses . Mr Birling says angrily: its about time you learnt to face a few responsibilities Mr Birling is more worryà about his business and social scandal. Sheila seems to care about Eric , but mostly seems to pity him because hes I a mess. She doesnt really try to help him , she just says I dont want to get poor Eric into trouble but otherwise her Husband Gerald treats Eric like a younger brother. In act three Erics mums says Im absolutely ashamed of you. He is angry with her for turning Eva Smith away from her charity, and effectively killing her grandchild. He yells, Damn you, damn you and gets quite aggressive with her: (almost threatening her) You dont understand anything. You never did. You never even tried. Poor Eric no one likes him or knows him because his family only care about appearances not happiness . Eric is irresponsible, an alcoholic who sleeps with prostitutes, Eric is an alcoholic , Eva smith was a prostitute. Eric got her pregnant and he remembers very little about it . He gets the readers sympathy because he and Sheila differ from their parents , Sheila refers to them as these others who are uncaring and insensitive, he also gets our sympathy because he sticks up for the workers and hes obviously a bit of a mess. During the play Eric recognize is mistakes , take responsibility for them , and learning from them. And he does seem to do that. He accuses the other of pretending nothings happened and he says you lot may be letting yourselves out nicely, he acknowledges he stole money and tells Gerald , Eric knows the moneys not the important thing. He knows that the life of the girl is more important than that unlike his father and mother , he gets depressed that his parents seem to be having cosy chat about it. Question: Discuss about the Introduction to Asset Management. Answer: Introduction Asset is the backbone for efficient and effective working of every business organization. Assets are regarded as that part of the organization through which it would be able to generate profits or incomes in the future (Davis, 2016). Some examples of assets are property, land and building, furniture and fixtures and other tangible and intangible assets. Assets itself cannot help the company in generating incomes or in achieving the organizational goals (OFR, 2013). It needs to be maintained in all the respects and on regular basis from the degree of its physical condition to the degree of the best possible utilization the company is making out of it. Through this exercise company would be able to know whether the asset is in a condition of replacement or in a condition of further using for few years. Thus, managing the asset is very important for any organization (Brinkman, 2010). With this consideration, the report has been prepared by having deep study of the article relating to it and standards laid down by the British Institution have been discussed in detail known as PAS 55. This is further discussed with reference to the engineering systems and finally laid down how this standard has become the foundation for obtaining the ISO 55000 certification. With this objective, the report has been prepared detailing how far the research paper has contributed to enhance the knowledge and to help organization in managing the assets. Target Academic Community In the research paper, the academic community which has been targeted includes the British Institution of Standards, Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council, ISO authorities, the executives and the UAE personnel. Each of the academic community has been given importance in the paper and laid down the reasons as to why each of them is necessary in the process of the asset management. At first the British Institution of Standards is responsible for preparing the standards for asset management. It consists of the guidelines to be followed by the organization. Second Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council is the body which is wholly responsible for making the application of standards mandatory and compulsory and where necessary exemptions were given. At third comes the ISO authority which clearly states that once the asset management policy comes into force, the organization may go for the ISO 55000 certification. Then comes the executives of the organization who are held with the resp onsibility for effective and efficient working of the organization and they should be informed of the asset management policy and working of the company and deviations if any (IBM, 2009). In the last, the academic community is UAE personnel. It is very well mentioned that the UAE personnel have skills and capabilities to monitor the policies and thus they should be employed in the organizations and deployed with the necessary responsibilities. Thus, the above the communities over which the research paper has been framed. As per the recent case, Riyal Womens Hospital in Melbourne, Australia has undergone through the process of implementation and application of Asset Management which is known as PDCA and found it very beneficial for the organization and patients. (UGL, 2016). Thus, in view of this work, the target community will be the organization and customers of that organization. Research Problem The research has been revolved over the different problems and has simultaneously provided the solutions. The first research problem is the application of the standards for asset management as notified by the British institutions of standards. These standards define the management of an asset throughout the life cycle of an asset and how the system of asset management can be controlled. These standards are cumbersome to apply and therefore, the research paper has laid down the procedures as to how the organization can incorporate the asset management as part of the organizational goals and how it can be achieved (IIMM, 2011). The second research problem which has been discussed is how the organizations working in different sectors and industry and having different objectives and strategies can apply the same standards and form their asset management policy. Also the goals get automatically changed when the organization is located in different parts of the country. The aforesaid probl em has been resolved later by clarifying that the each and every organization may have its own policy for asset management depending upon objectives, strategies and locations but that too should be in accordance with the PAS 55. In the recent research conducted in New Zealand and Australian Electric Industry, the main research problem is the definition of asset management. Majority of the people do not understands as to what is included in the term of asset management. In all the discussion it is emphasized that asset management is an activity consisting of set of events to be carried out to realize the value of asset by considering the risks, threats, opportunities and benefits of assets (Fuller, 2015). PAS 55 in line with ISO 55000 is the basic model for the effectiveness of the asset management policy installed in the organization. It is because PAS 55 has described the practices in detail which ensures the best working of the asset and gives the best useful life to every asset. Asset may be tangible or intangible or human asset. It has outlined the stages through which each and every organization has to undergone to develop and efficient asset management plan. It includes four stages namely stage of planning, the stage of deploying, the stage of operating and maintaining and the stage of performance appraising to check whether the asset has reached the stage of retirement. For the companies having different objectives, different industries, different sectors and different locations have to follow four stages to achieve asset management namely mobilization, designing, development and the implementation of the policy and the sustainment of the policy and the assets. In this way mod el laid down by PAS 55 has been followed throughout the study. Thereafter, ISO 55000 has laid down that after having the defined asset management policy the company shall apply for ISO certification (Official Website, 2009). Therefore, these two models are relevant for the study. Data Collection and Analysis The research paper is the qualitative in its characteristic. In the research paper, the data has been collected from reliable sources. At first the reference has been given to the PAS 55 which has been obtained through the article on Asset management published in the year 2008. On the similar lines other data has been obtained on its guidelines, steps for formation for asset management policy and implementation thereof. Thus, for completing the research paper the data has been collected from secondary sources. It means that data has been collected from the books, journals and papers in which the asset management has been discussed. Data has not been collected through any of the primary source (IAM, 2009). The analysis of the data so collected and informed in the paper has been analyzed through the thematic approach. It is used where the analysis have to formed from the work and interpretations of other researchers. No quantitative data has been incorporated in the report and thus the analyses so made have been the qualitative one. Contibution of the Paper and Relevance to the Knowledge The research paper has contributed widely in the field of asset management both theoretically and practically. Theoretically, all the four stages of the asset management policy has been laid down describing each and every stage and described the asset management policy as the Plan Do Check Act (PGDCA) Cycle. The stage includes the planning, execution, operation and maintenance and evaluation. These are the predefined steps and along with these steps the asset management guidelines have been mentioned which includes the incorporation of legal framework in the policy and providing the status of asset and the asset management policy to the different stakeholders (Keller W,2009). On the practical aspects, the paper has also contributed to the wider extent. As these standards cannot be applied universally on uniform basis to each and every organization and has described the relaxation in the asset management policy provided the policy so formed shall be within the limits of the defined provisions of standards and the guidelines. In connection with the contribution, the paper has also imparted knowledge on the importance of the asset management. Many companies are still not aware of the guidelines and standards and adopt it as obligation. Through this paper the companies would be able to know the importance and will adopt it whole heartedly. Conclusion Having an asset management policy as the part of the main objective of an organization will always help the organization in making best use of its assets and also the generate profits or income for many years to come. PAS 55 standards has laid down the guidelines along with the steps of formation of asset management policy and its implementation. PAS 55 along with ISO 55000 has been detailed which will help the companies in adopting the same in easy and understandable manner.
